During Covid-19 period there is another outbreak appeared in front of us and it is called Norovirus Outbreak.

Kerala is the first state to report about the outbreak of Norovirus cases in India. Around 13 students of veterinary college were reported infected in Norovirus infection.

An initial report says that this infection is like winter vomiting bug, which causes diarrhea and vomiting. State health minister appeals to the people to stay alert during this period.

What is Norovirus Infection?

In a simple term we can say Norovirus is called winter season vomiting bug. It is a contagious virus and causes vomiting and diarrhea.

As per Mayo Clinic Norovirus infection can be easily spread to other in isolation spaces like hospitals, child care, schools, nursing home and cruise ships.

Researchers from America’s Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say that it can be transmitted directly if you come under the close contact infected person.

Norovirus infection can be spread if you consume contaminated foods or touching the surface which are contaminated and close contact of unwashed hands with mouth.

As per doctors Norovirus infection is highly contagious and can be infected to anyone more than once.

Basic prevention is to wash your hands with any soap or sanitizer properly.

Doctors advised to avoid contaminated food and water as, those are may be prepared by any sick person.

Wash all the vegetable and fruits thoroughly before eating them.

Health minister of Kerala clearly said that to take special attention those who are interacted with animals.

Health Minister also advised people to use chlorinated water for drinking and cooking.

Boiling water is good option for drinking and cooking.

Doctors say to the peoples to stay at home during the infection and take proper medicine.

Once symptoms are gone still they advise to stay at home for 2 to 3 days and avoid contact with anyone.

During this time consume more liquid item to avoid dehydration.

Norovirus Outbreak in World

Norovirus outbreak was first reported in England during month of July 2021. That time more than 150 people were affected in this virus.

Their Health department released a statement that this infection rate is more than 3 fold from last five years of infection.

China was another country which was affected with this virus in 2018. More than 160 people were affected during this outbreak.

After investigation of this outbreak doctors came to know that eating take-out food is the main reason for this infection.

As a result China has imposed to off-campus dining and implemented disinfection.

Doctors clearly said to maintain proper hygiene and avoid contact with sick people to check the disease.
